The opening song of Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly’s newest full length gave me the initial idea that what I was about to listen to was a clear-cut indie album. Track ‘The Real Mccoy’ simply screams influences of the likes of the Arctic Monkeys and some early Blur. However as you listen on to second track ‘Vital Statistics’, the indie influence is still there, but the song brings with it new dimensions and a more varied stance on the genre. There’s no doubt that I do enjoy some good indie now and again, but I much prefer bands who seem to have possibly given more thought into how they can do there own thing with the wide-spread genre and as you listen on though Maps, there is a very seamless blending of genres such as pop, folk, electronic and of course, indie. To further cement the album’s genre mixing theme, acclaimed UK hip-hop artist Jehst features on ‘The Long and The Short of It’ & ‘Offline Maps’, the former possibly my favourite song on the album. I highly recommend this album to fans of Arctic Monkeys, Gorillaz & Mark Ronson. An all round great album!
