Haim - Something To Tell You

Haim - Something To Tell You

As far as Haim are concerned, the seventies never left. Or they did, and Haim are doing something itchingly, glitteringly, new with its ashes. Something to Tell You was four years in the making, four years that probably would have forgotten any other new band, but Haim are different. The sisters’ on-stage chemistry and charisma enchants crowds, their playful, danceable, vintage-tinged music thrives on the radio, and their striking mixture of boppy pop and introspective rock is something indie music has been missing. And sophomore record Something To Tell You delivers everything four years promised, and more.

Lead single Want You Back is personable whilst being bold; Danielle Haim’s trademark sultry voice is nothing but strengthened by an infectious beat. Standouts include piano-led track Little Of Your Love, the one perfect for late-afternoon festival crowds, Found It In Silence, which seems to pride itself on its layered strings instrumental, and Right Now, whose bare, defenseless, naked core is striking.

The record is sun-kissed, upbeat, catchy, and beaming - it’s begging to be played out on the Californian beaches the Haim sisters call home. A flawless mixture of simple yet tender lyrics, compelling guitar hooks, and insouciant coolness, and it’s safe to say Haim have mastered this whole ‘band’ palaver.
