There was a time when Hard Fi were at their most prolific, that I was regularly working and driving in and out of the Middlesex / West London area and this band would be going round on my car’s stereo, extremely loud let me tell you. Their music always seemed to come to life when I was in their manor and playing them on their turf so to speak. It’s a real delight to see them back here this evening out on the road and to be enjoying their many classic indie anthems.
The sound quality at the off is not sounding quite right with bassist (Kai Stephens) vocals at times over riding Richard Archer’s! But as the show progressed it seemed to have got fixed. Archer thanks us all profusely for our support on many occasions, it must mean so much to hit the road some twelve years after only their third album was released to be able to play to a decent sized crowd like this one tonight, that is lapping it all up.
It’s been eighteen years since the release of their debut album Stars of CCTV and although the album releases its fair to say haven’t been very prolific in this time, the amount of quality banging tunes from their career to date it has to be said is very impressive indeed.
They find time for a new song Always and Forever and it has all the hall marks and guitar riffs of their classics and fits right in on this mainly best of set list.
Tied Up Too Tight, Watch Me Fall Apart, I Shall Overcome, Cash Machine, Suburban Nights, Hard To Beat and Stars Of CCTV all get an airing. Wow! What a set list?
Straight out of West London, Hard Fi, still have plenty to offer, so here’s hoping for more new material and another show around here in the not-too-distant future.
