Kyle Falconer
Kyle was still most certainly on fire, he is most certainly still the Don
It’s Tuesday night in St Benedicts Street Norwich, nothing strange or unusual about that so far right? So where is everyone?
Kyle Falconer, the mad as a hatter front man with Dundee/s finest sons, The View is in the City as part of his solo tour, playing the Arts Centre bar area and there are just circa forty five people in attendance! Maybe everyone is still hung over from all of the post Norwich City promotion celebrations?
“Is this what it has come too?” asks Falconer as he enters the tiny stage joined by his regular side kick Stevie Anderson.
Anyway, he doesn’t seem too fazed by the size of the crowd as he gets going, he is 100% the professional, playing a great set with a mix of new solo material from his debut album No Thank You coupled with some classics from his already fairly comprehensive The View back catalogue. He reflects fondly on playing here in the past with his band mates, but talk about contrasts, that last gig that they played here was such a wild hedonistic night by comparison.
The View shot to fame back in 2006 with theHats Off To The Buskersalbum and five more albums followed thereafter.
The small crowd do their very best to understand his extremely broad and thoroughly charming Scottish accent. He asks if we can understand him and the response is an overwhelming NO. We are informed that this is after receiving some allocution lessons in the past!
He is on just great form already this evening and some five songs into the set he does away with the set list and asks for requests, it’s very clearly already that sort of night. They come flooding in from the floor and the balcony area, Sundayand Unexpectedform part of the unscheduled / off piste set list and he seems to embrace with curiosity any song that anyone throws at him, for the latter he says that he’s now thirty one and wrote that when he was just seventeen years old.
The new material such as The Therapist, Avalanche and Japanese Girlsound just great.
He claims to have kicked the booze, but has no problem downing a few rum’s, all for his sore throat he claims!
It’s been a magnificent evening, what a talented young man Kyle Falconer is.
Those of us that have bothered to come out this evening would I think most certainly agree, that Kyle was still most certainly on fire, he is most certainly still the Don.
