Matt Corby - Telluric

Those who have heard Matt Corby sing can testify to the resonant quality of his voice; how it reaches, via rich sonorous tones, a heart-rendering falsetto that can float through the auditorium. Capturing it, bottling it and releasing it as a digital product was never going to be easy. You will certainly need to be patient with Telluric, his debut album. It is a much darker and moodier offering than is often served up by wander-lusting Antipodeans. It travels through rich seams of gospel, soul and even funk as we explore themes of almost tribal reverence for Mother Earth, and the cyclical inevitability of life and death, starting with the reflective Belly Side Up passing through Sooth Lady Wine, the lazy blues of Good to Be Alone and finally making way for Empires Attraction reminding us all of our collective responsibility to safeguard the future of the planet. Dig beneath the surface and you reach precious nuggets that remind of Jeff Buckley, Richard Hawley and even Sly Stone. Every subsequent listen reveals fresh flourishes and delicate touches that makes Telluric grow into a creature of real beauty. Be prepared to be dazzled as well as enriched.
