Midwinter Moonshine // NAC - 21.12.11
"It was completely sold out, full of the young and the old, some in finery, some in jeans, but all up for a toe tapping time courtesy of local bands..."
This is the second time a Midwinter Moonshine evening has happened at the Arts Centre. A bit of festive fun for Norwich folk and country fans, it was completely sold out, full of the young and the old, some in finery, some in jeans, but all up for a toe tapping time courtesy of local bands.
The evening was set up beautifully, with decorations by Bo Nanafana and spiced cider and baked potatoes available to warm the cockles. First up were the Loose Leaf Drifters, singing of whisky and women, and a final song sung acapella.
Next up was Feral Mouth, a more upbeat and stomping sort of band featuring a cellist, a double bassist, a saxophonist, harmonica and banjo amongst others. Reminiscent of the O Brother Where Art Thou soundtrack this band really brought the audience to life, all ready for the finale of the evening, The Vagaband. You may know them from their many years of busking outside Habitat...they’ve been going for a long time. The crowd went crazy for their rootsy sound, a mixture of rock n roll, country, folk and bluegrass and the fascinating outfits of the many-numbered band members. A rousing end to a festive and jolly evening.
