Day two and starting to feel a little frazzled

Norwich Sound + Vision // Day Two - 11.10.2013

Here we go again for day two of NS&V 2013.

The evening got off to a disappointing start. Being thoroughly disorganised, I'd failed to sort out a reservation for The Neutrinos' Klang Haus and so missed out. Hey ho, on the Assembly Rooms for Wooden Arms. Now, I like the recent EP but it didn’t quite translate into a live setting. For me, a bit more Silver out Zion and a little less Clannad wouldn’t go amiss. Still, things got going after four numbers and 'Separate The Verb' was an excellent finale. (7/10)

Onwards to NAC and DEMS. With a sound drawing in the main from 90s pop but with hints of Talk Talk, this was well crafted, well played pop that seemed to go down well with the audience. (7/10)

A complete change of pace and style with Radkey. Young chaps from Missouri, the patches-and-denim look suggests a revival of the new wave of British Heavy Metal. Thankfully, this was not reflected in the sound. Yeah, Radkey are influenced by metal but this is clearly secondary to early ‘80s hardcore pedalled by the likes of Poison Idea, Minor Threat and Circle Jerks. The energy levels stayed high throughout and songs like 'Cat And Mouse' suggest a bright, bright future. (10/10)

Another change in style for Superfood and their take on early 90s altrock. Listenable and entertaining but hardly original. (6/10)

“Hardly original” is a charge that can also be levelled at Drenge. Musically heavier than I expected but vocally weaker, which could be down to the rigours of touring. This went down extremely well with the young (and not so young) in the audience. All-in-all, entertaining. (8/10)

Bring on tomorrow...
