Orgöne - Mos/Fet
Some reviews were offered up by the Editor, and rather than pick and choose, I said, “surprise me” and surprise me they did. Mos/Fet is the debut album from this French prog/psych/doom outfit, and I must say, it’s rather impressive.
Opening with a seventeen-minute epic is a risky gambit, but it does set the album up well, and prepares you for what’s to come. With tempo and time signature changes a plenty, and an emphasis on fuzzy guitars and heady keyboards, it’s most definitely unpredictable.
Match that with a vocalist that wouldn’t be out of place in a Siouxsie and the Banshees tribute band, and you have something that’s pretty special. If you’re not up on your prog rock, it’s going to be challenging to listen to for the uninitiated but persevere with it, and it’s actually quite rewarding.
Fans of Hawkwind are absolutely going to lap this up like it’s the milk of the Gods, because it’s just so spaced out. In my younger days I would have probably listened to this with my friends in a smoke-filled room whilst philosophising on the universe and other deep and meaningful topics.
As you progress on your journey through space, you’ll find you’re not on a direct route, as there are many twists and turns as you meander your way toward your destination. Then just when you thought you were getting near to the terminus the album ends with yet another seventeen-minute plus song of epic proportions.
When you finally return to earth, you may find yourself wanting to go again, such is the addictive nature of the music, but as I’ve said, it’s not for the faint of heart. It’s a white-knuckle ride, so strap yourself in, press play and head for outer space, you won’t be sorry. This is essential listening for any psychedelia fans out there, and for anyone else wanting to try something a little different.
