Sleemo - Mutation Of

Power trio Sleemo mean business, and this EP is testament to that fact. Opening with a crunching riff and continuing throughout, it’s a full-on assault to your ears. Their sound is quite grungey (not a proper word, but hey it’s an acceptable adjective, even if I did make it up), so comparisons to Nirvana are inevitable, but while there might be some elements, they’re so much more that a clone of said band.

Having caught them live back in February, I was looking forward to hearing their new stuff. I can’t help thinking that this EP quite captures the band’s live presence, as the production is a little polished, so some of the dirty sound is lost. That said, it’s not massively over-produced, thankfully.

So is it worth parting with your hard earned cash for? Absolutely, and with gigs in short supply, listening to new music might help to keep you sane. If you’ve not seen or heard Sleemo, then you’re missing out, because they’re bloody good. Grab yourself a copy of this EP, releasing on 24thApril and have a listen for yourself if you don’t believe me
