SuperGlu

Best new band of 2015? Don't bet against it.

SuperGlu

SuperGlu is a family affair, featuring as it does Mick Squallor, his girlfriend Krista Lynch, brother Alex Brown and Dingus Khan bandmate Ben Ward. As expected from a band featuring Mick and Ben, SuperGlu don't take 'emselves too seriously. Any band that starts with an impromptu Cotton Eye Joe isn’t going to heavy on our asses. But don't mistake a band with a sense of mischief for a novelty act. Like Dingus, the songs are exceptionally strong.

In the case of SuperGlu, the songs are damned near perfect punky powerpoppy garage, recalling The Fall when Mark E Smith was at the top of his game and early Half Man Half Biscuit. Mick unsurprisingly, makes himself the centre of attention but combines with bassist Krista and guitarist Alex to produce wonderfully yobby gang vocals. Ben underpins it all with some heavy hitting drums.

It may only be March but SuperGlu may turn out to be the best new band of the year. Great, great stuff.

9.5/10
