It’s hot in here. And loud. The PA is too big for the room.

Metal/hardcore/mathrock crossover trio Deaf Capes kick things off. The music is not as clever as the name, I didn’t get the weird vocal effects and the soloing was a little squiddlywiddly for me but fans of Helmet or Battles could do worse than check this lot. (6/10)

What the hell are lads just turning 20 doing covering Kick Out The Jams and nailing it? The Bad Apples play bluesy, garage rock recalling Black Keys or White Stripes. The MC5 cover and Bieber-baiting He Will Be The Death Of Rock And Roll are highlights of a bloody entertaining but hardly original set. (8/10)

Rats As Big As Dogs combine the swagger of the Heartbreakers, venom of the Pistols, energy of the Clash and aggression of the Exploited into a glorious racket. Beneath the noise, there is melody and huge choruses. Jay, Reuben, Shannon and Ollie take the punk template and turn it into something new and exciting. Excellent. (9/10)

More noise follows with DIY heroes That Fucking Tank. Andy’s baritone guitar combines with James’ drums to create an enjoyably intense, alternative take on metal. Not for the faint hearted but well worth a look. (8/10)
