The Cult // Choice Of Weapon

The Cult – Choice of Weapon (Cooking Vinyl)
Let me take you back to February 1987, more specifically the video release of Love Removal Machine by the Cult. The massively 80’s soft focus drama is unfolding, layer by layer, a moody stare here, a waft of highlighted hair there and then boom! 54 seconds in, there it is, Billy Duffy’s trouser vegetable, in all its denim clad glory, epitomising The Cult and the classic cock rock they produced. But let’s return to today and the album Choice of Weapon, does it live up to the gargantuan phallus of the late 80s? I’d say yes, more so. Opener ‘Honey from a Knife’ kicks off a pretty damn cool album, The Cult of 2012 sound like a super band with a Cornell/Bowie hybrid front man. The Wolf and Life>Death are stand out tracks and even Wilderness Now, which sounds like an “Oh-I’ve-been-left-all-alone-on-the stage-in-the-middle-of-a-shit-rock-musical” number is salvaged by Ian Astbury’s vocals. Nice work The Cult….. Oh, you’re still thinking about the cock aren’t you? Well, go on then, have a look on Youtube.
