The View
Oh, isn’t it so great to have The View back making music and gigging again? They have provided me and their many resolute followers with some very memorable gigs over the years since they first burst onto the scene back in 2007 with their debut album, Hats Off To The Buskers.
It has been almost eight years since we last saw them out on tour, but thankfully they are back with a new album, and it is a very welcome return indeed and then to have some new material to boot to listen too is such a bonus as well.
Although, tonight is not a sell out there is more than enough of us in here this evening to prove to the band if nothing else that there is still a lot of love for them.
They all look wonderful, as fresh as daisy’s in fact, just like the last time we saw them and that comes across on the new album tracks from Exorcism Of Youth that get an airing such as, The Wonder Of It All, Shovel In His Hands, Dixie and the brilliant Allergic To Mornings (already it’s fast becoming another new band anthem) and of course they belt out some of their classic tracks, just as we hoped and expected.
Their on it straight away with Glass Smash and Comin’ Down much to the audiences delight and they sound amazing, lead singer Kyle Falconer’s voice has not waivered at all, he is in fine fettle, rolling his tongue around his excellent lyrics in his own irrepressible style. It is a rip-roaring set, it’s like they have never been away.
We are treated to, as is tradition Kieran Webster (bassist) stepping up for lead vocals on the wild and raucous Skag Trendy and why not? Plus, the delightful Grace, and of course The Don and Double Yellow Lines. Its just magnificent, we are all having the time of our lives singing along.
They close the evening with as much energy as they started it an hour and a half ago, Face For The Radio, Sunday, Same Jeans, Superstar Tradesman and Shock Horror round off the night, perfectly.
Wow! It has been quite electric even if it is not been as hedonistic as those early days, but the enthusiasm and adrenalin of these boys from back in the day is still very evident tonight. It really is a very welcome return from Dundee’s finest sons and yes, for the record. The View are most certainly still on fire. Welcome back Kyle and Co, even though I still cannot understand a word you said!
