The Wombats - Stone
This evening was the perfect mixture of old classics and dance floor fillers, bringing you the very best of nostalgia, this is certainly a gig I won’t forget in a hurry!
Another magical Tuesday night at The LCR as The Wombats hit the stage playing their greatest hits in perfect harmony with their newer material.
The night began with indie rockers Stone who were the perfect aperitif, the young talent from Liverpool had the best energy on stage which deserves the title of one of the UK’s most promising new bands, their song Leave It Out was a firm a favourite of mine. Watch out for these, they are definitely worth a listen!
Before we knew it, it was time for The Wombats to take over the stage, accompanied by a backdrop of their iconic logo and various Minecraft-esque stage décor. Everyone was ready and longing to take a trip down memory lane to revisit the indie utopia that The Wombats were once Kings of.
Admittedly, I had never seen the band until last night, but the promise of the greatest hits certainly drew me in, longing for a sense of nostalgia from one of the bands that soundtracked my teenage years.
The night of the greatest hits was truly underway, with an extensive catalogue of everyone’s favourite indie sing-along classics like Pink Lemonade and the iconic sing-your-heart-out chorus of The Car Drives All By Itself, harmoniously incorporated with some of their new materials including live debuts of their upcoming songs…I’m really liking what I’m hearing so far!

But it wasn’t just the songs that made the night, the mysterious figures hiding behind Wombat costumes storming the stage during some crowd favourites definitely added to the evening, my personal highlight was a trombone solo played by a wombat in a shiny green blazer amusing the band members as well as the audience.
The show included everything you would dream for, from fire to confetti and an ending filled with feel good classics like Let’s Dance to Joy Division and Turn. This evening was the perfect mixture of old classics and dance floor fillers, bringing you the very best of nostalgia, this is certainly a gig I won’t forget in a hurry!
