Pi$$er - Wretched Life

Pi$$er might best be described as a supergroup. I could fill this review with the names of the bands that the members have been in. How about the Domestics, Anti-Cimex, Doom and Revenge of the Psychotronic Man for starters? Ok, they’re not exactly household names but this collaboration will be exciting news for fans of the more extreme end of the punk spectrum.

James Domestic delivers the gruff, guttural bark whilst Charlie Claesson (drums), Rhodes (bass/organ), Bri Talbot (guitar) and Matt Woods (guitar) play with the speed and intensity expected of the hardcore genre. What sets this apart from other hardcore is the sax of Eddie O’Toole, which adds a dash of the free-jazz/no wave of James Chance or John Zorn’s Painkiller to the mix.

This clearly won’t be for everyone and will almost certainly never trouble the mainstream but this four tracker is an intriguing introduction to the world of Pi$$er. Whether they will release a full length LP and tour remains the be seen but I certainly hope this is not a one-off.
