BORED! – FEED THE DOG
Geelong, Australia’s Bored! were originally active from 1987 to 1993. This is a re-release of the third in a run of five of LPs. Bored! passed me by at the time but it is hard to understand why. The driving, punk-inflected heavy rock would’ve been right up my street. Hells, it still is…
With Dave Thomas on vox/guitar, Russell Baricevic on bass/vox and drummer Buzz Munday, Bored! were both tight as hell and on the verge of falling apart. This should have been a crossover hit, finding favour with fans old school punk, classic metal, the sleaze rock spearheaded by Guns N’ Roses and the rapidly exploding grunge scene of the time.
Opener Feed The Dog comes on like the Stooges covered by The Saints. Face Full Of You has the sleazy swagger of Hollywood Brats and the aggression of UK Subs. Rocket Ride could be a long-lost track from Heartbreakers’ LAMF. Motormouth, Over The Edge and Comin' Home are all turbo-charged takes on AC/DC.Friday's Child bears comparison to near contemporaries Mudhoney. Elsewhere there are touches of Motörhead, Wipers, Dickies and even Sabbath.
This is a damned fine LP and I’m pretty certain Amyl & The Sniffers were listening.
