Two very good bands, poor turn-out.

Local five piece Avosetta consider themselves to play "unique rock/alternative" but to me this was essentially well-played, but unoriginal nu metal-lite. Vocalist Sam has a decent voice but accompanies it with stage moves straight from the X-Factor. Guitarists Jack and Ben, bassist Jay and drummer Will all play competently but songs like 'Tear Apart' and 'Break Away' really don't do anything new. Sorry chaps, but this didn’t do it for me. (4/10)

From Cambridge, Go.Fly.Win offer something less polished, dare I say less competent, but more heartfelt and original. Singing guitarist Aaron's strong voice is backed up by two more guitarists in Daniel and Louis, bassist Joshua and Tony on drums. The likes of 'O Icarus', 'Devices' or 'Horizons' combine nu-metal with early '90s alt.rock and melodic hardcore to very satisfying effect. Good stuff. (8/10)

Geordie four piece Boy Jumps Ship play a punky rock 'n' roll, coming on like a tighter early Manics. They must have been disappointed at the small turn out but didn't seem phased by it. With powerful songs like 'We Won't Burn Out', they certainly deserve a bigger audience. (8/10)
