Coloursøund - Coloursøund II

Coloursøund - Coloursøund II

Back in the late 90s, Mike Peters of The Alarm and Billy Duffy of The Cult - along with Craig (The Mission/Sisters of Mercy) Adams and Scott (the Cult/Mission) – found themselves at a loose end and recorded Coloursøund’s self-titled debut album. Hardly original, it was a decent enough rawk album.

20 or so years later, Peters and Duffy were back in the studio with a new rhythm section of George Williams and Smiley. Like its predecessor, Coloursøund II breaks no new ground. Fans of its principals’ main bands will likely love the way it mixes the best elements of The Alarm and The Cult. The music brings to mind the likes of AC/DC, Zep and The Clash. Duffy’s riffs are as bombastic as ever and solos sear from the speakers. Peters’ vocals are heartfelt and passionate, demanding that the listener hollers along to the BIG anthemic choruses. It is a shame that the lyrics are a touch clichéd in places, which is not what I would expect from a writer of Peters’ undoubted talents.

This may not set the world afire but it is a decent bit of classic rock escapism and there is little enough of that these days. Now, what chance a tour to show the songs in their natural element?

6.5/10
