Elevant - Dreamface
Hailing from Liverpool, Elevant is a power trio with the emphasis on the power. That’s not always for the best. Singer/guitarist Michael Edwards has a decent bellow and knocks out some mean riffs. The rhythm section of Tom Shand and Joe Hutchinson is tight and heavy. But, whilst nothing on here is bad, it is mostly unexceptional. The likes of Open Heart Surgery, Blind and In Ourselves We Trust, owe a heavy debt to 90s grunge/alt., channelling Therapy?, Alice In Chains and Girls Against Boys to reasonable effect. When the template is ditched, things get better. Nothing comes on like a motorik Soundgarden. Snapshots could be an early Manics b-side. A few more like these two wouldn't go amiss.
