Floral Image
Floral Image took Norwich on a beautifully winding journey through their incredible discography on Saturday night, as they played the last show from the UK leg of their tour. The psychedelic pop band formed in 2019 are originally from Norwich, but can boast playing all over the country and even jetting off to Paris just next week.
Their show at Norwich Art’s Centre was incredible to say the least and it’s clear that these guys will go far. With inspiration derived from the heart of early 1970s psychedelia, their vibe also features neo-psychedelic flavours, hugely reminiscent of artists such as Tame Impala and King Gizzard. The band- Fergus Nolan, Jack Warner, Tex Kennedy and Mitch Forsyth- provided a hugely ambient evening, showcasing Norwich’s upcoming talent and it’s safe to say that these guys are a super vibrant band who will definitely move onto wonderful things within their sphere.
This wasn’t my first time seeing Floral Image and I have to say, they were even better than I remembered. It was clear they’ve hugely developed as a collective, their onstage dynamic was smooth and natural. The whole night was an incredibly sensory experience, the band perfectly understanding the clever ability of this genre and the general feel of psychedelic music to attack each and every sense with a crafted amalgamation of sound. Each track successfully encapsulated the energy in the packed venue, creating a beautifully layered biome of cosmic noise.
Floral Image played tracks from their new EP ‘So Synthesised’ and one tune stayed with me from the night, hearing their song ‘Babe and The Devil’ live was totally unmatched and just steeped in neo-psych glory. The band also performed their rendition of ‘Gypsy Woman’ which was something I remembered from seeing them before, their take on the song oozed acid house groove and was a really fun way to draw the night to a close.
Fergus’s stage dive ended the night on a high and it’s clear to see that this band is the brainchild of some hugely talented guys tearing up the neo-psychedelic scene.
