Giorgio Moroder - Déjà Vu

Synth pioneer, solo artist, collaborator, producer Moroder has been around for years, his work including Together In Electric Dreams and Donna Summer’s I Feel Love. Nothing on here hits those heights.

On this, Moroder collaborates with current chart stars and less familiar artists. Moroder subjugates his own identity for those of his collaborators. Deja Vu is essentially a Sia track. Substitute Sia for Charlie XCX on Diamonds, Kelis on Back & Forth and Foxes for Wildstar. Decent tracks but there is little of Moroder on them. Unsurprisingly, given her the chameleonic nature, Kylie’s turn on Right Here, Right Now is inoffensive, anonymous, by-numbers dance pop. Mikky Ekko, Matthew Koma and Marlene appear on Don’t Let Go, Tempted and I Do This For You. These show more individuality but that may be a lack of familiarity with the featured artists. The surprise highlight is a take on Suzanne Vega’s Tom’s Diner, featuring Britney Spears. It's the most original thing on here, but purists will hate it. The other three tracks are free of featured guests but are also free of that spark that would raise them above Guetta and his ilk.

This is well-constructed but predictable stuff that should go down well on the Kiss FM playlist but it is just too safe.
