Hologram Teen - Between the Funk and the Fear

Hologram Teen - Between the Funk and the Fear

Hologram Teen is the alter ego of Morgane Lhote, perhaps best known as keyboard player in Stereolab.

There’s some good stuff on here. Post-Apocalpteacakes shows what an upbeat Burial could sound like. Tracksuit Minotaur adds a rock edge to the Kraftwerk template. The skittering, jittery Bartok In C could almost be Faithless reimagined by Aphex Twin. Lesbian Death Drums could be Jilted era Prodigy without Flint and Maxim, So, this isn't a bad album as such but most of it just doesn’t move me,

I don’t want to disparage some creative, inventive playing but, call me old-fashioned if you will, there’s just not enough in the way of songs. You know, actual proper songs with a tune that I want to listen to again and again. Being brutal, Fuck Buttons have more than covered this territory and have done it better than Hologram Teen.
