Mark Watson @ Playhouse
A night to remember!
As of last night, Mark Watson is officially my new favourite comedian. Hands down. I may be slightly biased due to the fact that he gave me a shout out after I shamelessly scrawled over his Facebook wall “It’s mine and my boyfriend’s year anniversary and we had our first date at your show last year, please give us a mention because we think you’re awesome!!”
He began by explaining to the audience that this wasnt actually a real show and simply a warm up for the actual tour which hadn't started yet. The suggestion being that we shouldn't get our hopes up for anything special to happen on stage! Not only is Watson's self effacing awkwardness totally endearing it's just so damn funny too; even when telling us it's going to be shit its absolutely hysterical!
The premise of the evening's entertsinment was to regale us with the story of when he flew from London to Sydney and the problems he faced along the way. Eventually we got to the end of the story after about 900 tangents of abolutely superb quality, I really mean it when I say I did not stop laughing!
I think the reason Watson’s shows are so relentlessly comical is the way in which he relates to his audience and in turn how they agree with his views on life as a result. I find it is often the most mundane things in life that inspire the most amusement and he has this down to an absolute T.
One joke in particular involved Mark explaining the predicment of having a 'bumble bee the size of a breezeblock' in the sink and how, even at the age of 36, he had to call his mum for advice on how to remove said bee. Obviously I cant tell it right or do it anywhere near as much justice as it deserves so I suggest you see for yourself this weekend!
Thanks for a night to remember! 11/10
