Montagues & Capulets - Landscapes of Youth
Not one bad track on this album.
After listening to this album, the lyrics, the hooks, the melodies and everything in between, I am still unable to believe these guys have an age range of 18-20! There is so much depth in both the overall sound as well as the lyrics themselves, and all I can say is hats off to these newcomers for coining a very special sound so early on in their musical career.
The majority carries an upbeat tone, with catchy indie guitar riffs and pleasant melodies; it would be the perfect thing to play in the car with the windows down on a sunny day. Saying that, some of the tracks are far better suited to a jolly good boogie! It is near impossible to stop your toes tapping to ‘Cigarettes and Silhouettes’ which echoes the sound of something in between Razorlight and The Kooks.
This being said, the more sensitive tracks like “Modern Love” and the closing track “Landscapes of Youth” have also had lasting impression on me. There is so much genuine emotion in the voice of Nathan Baverstock (lead vocalist); he maintains the perfect mixture of sensitivity, grittiness and self-deprecation. The band’s wonderful delivery and combination of relatability have charmed and impressed me all the way through, and I can honestly say that in my opinion there is not one bad track on this album. Congratulations on a fantastic debut!
