Pocket Dream - Playhouse
The sparkly crowd went wild!
The Playhouse was roaring with laughter last night at the whirlwind, riotous performance interpretation of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The group specialise in engaging young audiences with Shakespearian theatre, whilst maintaining its’ classical language, the group includes modern references, music and jokes. Pocket Dream condensed Shakespeare’s classic comedy into an hour long performance.
The cast consisted of six male actors, all of which doubled (some tripled) up to play a variety of characters, males, female, fairy and donkey throughout the show. The costume switches were effortless; the central colour scheme was white with tan and black, featuring tutus as fabulous accessories. Puck, played by Lewis Hart, stood out the most to me; the part of the mischievous pixie was played absolutely perfectly. He did backflips and cartwheels as well as bouncing and leaping across the stage with the style and grace of a ballet dancer. Wearing finger symbols, the magical chime sounded on his entrances, exits and casting of spells; such a fantastic touch. The musical elements were woven into the fabric of the performance perfectly; the sound of magical chimes and thunderstorms brought the enchanted forest well and truly to life. All of the actors played instruments, sung and harmonised; their rendition of Beyoncé’s “Crazy in Love” was adored by the audience. The show was closed with handfuls of glitter thrown out to the audience and peace as restored in the forest once more. The sparkly crowd went wild!
Thank you Propeller for putting the magic into my Monday, I thoroughly enjoyed the show.
