Roots Manuva // 4everevolution
"Regardless, I liken the phenomenon to that of eating doughnuts... impossible to eat without licking your lips." - The new Roots Manuva album has strange effects on Tommy Dog...
Roots Manuva - 4everevolution (Ninjatune - Big Dada Recordings)
Needing no introduction whatsoever (except maybe to the older generation), Roots Manuva is back... with a bang. Holy smokes is what comes straight to mind as there are some huge bassy tracks and slick lyrics over a multitude of different genres. The thing I like best is that like any great sportsperson, Rodney Smith (aka Roots Manuva), creates time and space for himself in an effortless fashion maintaining the focus of attention. There is definitely an untold art in simplifying something difficult to the point where it almost seems achievable to everyone else. Anyway... throw a few catchy bass lines with Rodney's vocals into the mix and suddenly your face and shoulders are a little scrunched and uncontrollably grooving from side to side. Maybe this album should come with some sort of warning emphasising that whilst listening everyone else will think you either have ants in your under garments or are simply a massive twat. Regardless, I liken the phenomenon to that of eating doughnuts... impossible to eat without licking your lips. And why wouldn't you want to lick your lips, groove like you've got ants in your pants, or simply transform into a massive twat? Indulge and let your body loose control... simply go with the flow.
