Slime - Company
5/10
I love Talk Talk singer Mark Hollis's solo work. I love Burial's Untrue. So, a combination of the two should be right up my alley, right? Erm... 'fraid not. Slime's Company is pleasant enough but this is the kinda stuff I have heard in the kind of over-priced, over-sanitised wine bar that I try desperately to avoid but end up in more often than I would like. Ethereal vocals float from speaker to speaker over glitchy, jazz-inflected mood music. Good for when the insomnia strikes at 3am but, whilst the individual elements are okay, nothing ever really gels into a decent song. There seems to be a million artists doing this sort of thing right now. Slime is far from the worst but nowhere near the best. Local acts Catnip & Claws and Broads both plough similar furrows to better effect.
