Superfood - Don't Say That

Well crafted but uninspired and uninspiring Britpop pastiche.

Superfood - Don't Say That

I saw Brummie four piece Superfood at the Arts Centre for NS+V 2013 and thought they produced an OK if unoriginal take on early 90s alternative rock. Somehow, between now and then, they’ve turned into a Britpop band. For the most part, this is OK and listenable but says nothing new. Opener Lily For Your Pad To Rest On could be the Longpigs with a dash of Kula Shaker. Signature track Superfood comes on like Cast covering Sympathy For The Devil. TV and Melting are Blur-lite.You Can Believe, It’s Good To See You In The Morning, Right On Satellite and Like A Daisy could be outtakes from any number  of mid- to late 90s identikit Britpop albums.

Thankfully, things perk up when Superfood channel Pulp on Pallisades and Don’t Say That. The former adds Arcade Fire-style gang chants, whilst the latter also hints at Suede and the Divine Comedy. So, not bad just uninspired.

Bound to be a hit.

5/10
