Superglu - Horse

Last March I suggested that SuperGlu and could be the best new band of 2015. Eleven months and a brilliant single later, I stand by that.

SuperGlu don’t necessarily do anything new but they do it with such energy, verve and sheer enthusiasm that they will win over even the most jaded of listeners. Opener Rounder sums up everything that is so great about this four piece: power-pop-punk hinting at The Fall or Half Man Half Biscuit and the boy-girl vocals so beloved of the eighties indie scene. Former single Latvian is all bouncy, pop nous and gang choruses. In a perfect world, it would have been number one for so long we’d have grown to almost hate it. Oil is heavier but no less catchy. The Buzzcocks come to mind with Question, whilst Weekend adds a hint of classic 70’s rock to the sound. Things take an unexpected turn into the introverted and restrained for Overjoyed. Well, for the first minute and a half before normal service is resumed and it all turns into The Damned jamming with Madness.

I love this band. I’ll be prepared to bet you will too. Go and see them live, go and buy this, go and make them the stars they bloody well should be.
