Teksti-TV 666 ‎– Aidattu tulevaisuus

Every so often something completely unexpected lands in my inbox and this album is just one of those moments. A Finnish seven piece with five - sometimes six - guitars playing what can only be described as mash-up of punk, post-roc, goth, psyche, shoegaze and pop, Teksti-TV 666 may just be my discovery of the year.

The title track comes on like Ramones covered by Mogwai. Turbo-Mondeo starts off as prime 80s pop-goth before going all My Bloody Valentine. Rauhankone could almost be Buzzcocks playing with latter-day Swans. Serverny is a brilliant melange of I Predict A Riot, the Mary Chain and modern Japanese psyche. Closer Katko is a driving rocker that will be immense live.

For the mostpart, UK audiences do not take to artists singing in anything other English. As a result, too many miss out on some fantastic music. The fact that this is sung in Finnish may count against it. It shouldn’t. This is so catchy that I was singing along after two listens, despite not knowing a word of Finnish and having no clue what I was bellowing. It is that good.

9/10
