The Pukes // Too Drunk To Pluck
There's enough punk attitude in this album to, well, win a 'who's the most punk?' contest.
A punk band doing covers you say? Hasn't that been done already? Ah, but they have a twist, they play Ukuleles and they're called The Pukes, (punks playing Ukes, gettit?!). Ok ok, before you write this album off as gimmicky (which it most certainly could have been) let's get a couple of things straight. Firstly, these gals write their own stuff too. Secondly, they are actually punks, rather than chicks with a coloured stripe in their hair, a leopard print t-shirt and a great idea on how to make it in a band. The Pukes began by accident, grew in popularity and have finally released their first full length 'Too Drunk To Pluck'. From the DIY album inlay to the Dead Kennedys references, there's enough punk attitude in this album to, well, win a 'who's the most punk?' contest. The covers (Ramones, Kennedys, Discharge etc) are fairly self-explanatory, the most refreshing part of 'Too Drunk' is the original material. Written from the heart, or from experience, the five tracks are simple and honest sing-along (or shout-along) songs, perfect for the pub or live show – just like punk should be. The Pukes are unlikely to ever be millionaires but they're having a bloody good laugh playing miniature guitars at punk gigs. Does anyone need anything more?
