Dan Sartain – Too Tough To Live (Lucky Cat)
Remember the days when you bought an album just from seeing the front cover? After all, the artist or band that OKed the use of that image have to be your type of people, right? I mean just look at it! And so of course they’ve gotta make some good music that you’re gonna be able to appreciate… Well Dan Sartain’s ‘Too Tough To Live’ is definitely one of those flukey and rare albums that you buy on loving the front cover, and are not let down on inserting the disc into the player. Basically this album is short and sweet, delivering a lucky thirteen tracks in under nineteen minutes. With an average duration of something like one minute and thirty seconds, the longest song peaks at two minutes and three seconds; this album is totally and honestly mixing it up every minute. There seems to be a basis for the album in punk, but really it’s getting mixed up so much, you’ll barely be able to focus on the aspect of a single genre. That is until reaching track nine, which screams PU@$*£!%*NK,‘Fuck F*iday’… need I say more? It’s a great album, although I cant say I’m digging track three, ‘I Wanna Join the Army’, which really reminds me of a ‘Navy Recruiting’ themed episode of The Simpsons, and so while I type, some consideration of entering the forces waves over my mind…
