Funeral for a Friend - Chapter and Verse
Hard-hitting, high energy and thoroughly enjoyable
It has been about ten years since I last listened to Funeral for a Friend (wow, that makes me feel old!) and although I would say that my music taste has moved on a little since my teenaged years of listening to emo, screamo and punk pop, I was intrigued when I found out they had a new record coming out. There is a clear progression from start to finish with the album. In my opinion it took one or two tracks to before it really got going; however track three blew me away. The style is similar to what I remember from back in the day; raw, catchy and only to be listened to very, very loudly! This positive incline continues throughout the record; it just gets better and better. My favourite track is entitled 1%; I was totally engrossed in the great mixture of melody, raw riffs with an interesting social commentary running thorough the lyrics. Brother, a really lovely acoustic tune at the end of the record not only tugs on the heart strings but show the bands ability to diversify and show that they are not only capable of bringing the noise. Funeral for Friend are a band that show no sign of tiring and are clearly all set to burst into 2015 firing on all cylinders. Hard-hitting, high energy and thoroughly enjoyable.
