Liam Gallagher - MTV Unplugged (Live At Hull City Hall)

Liam Gallagher - MTV Unplugged (Live At Hull City Hall)

Liam Gallagher explodes onto the stage yelling “YessssHull” and with that the crowd are immediately in raptures as he launches into Wall Of Glass. They are very clearly, already in awe of the man, in the palm of his hand and most definitely in his worship. "Liam, Liam, Liam"they chant and this is just the start of proceedings……he, one Mr Liam Gallagher is sounding in just such great form from the off.

Some Might Say is stripped right back down but still has all the swagger and poise of the more sneering original version and by now the show is already in full swing, it has well and truly exploded into life and we are only onsong two as a mass sing along ensues.

Some songs from the Oasis back catalogue get an airing as you would expect. Stand By Me, Sad Songand Cast No Shadow, but the solo material such as Wall Of Glass, Gone and Now That I’ve Found You, it must be said also glow very brightly indeed on the Humber on this particular evening in August 2019.

He closes the set with a very well arranged and much shorter version of Champagne Supernova…

There is not a duff track on the album from this barn storming live set. The playlist is quite superb, in fact it’s a really magnificent album with the man himself in fine fettle. I would go as far to say that he is on fire. Wow! What a great musical souvenir from one of Britain’s greatest ever frontmen, one who has now very much become his own man, one that is no longer living in the shadow of his big brother!

“Nice one Hull, see you down the road” he says as heads off stage.

Pop the corks for Liam Gallagher, we salute you…."Liam, Liam, Liam!"
