Turin Breaks - Lost Property
7/10
I had totally forgotten about this band until I was asked to review the new album. I felt a great big leap of excitement that took me over a decade back in time to the glory year of 2003 when Painkiller was on every other music channel (remember when you used to sit and flick relentlessly through the music channels with your mates waiting on your favourite songs to come on?) and radio station. My friends and I all worshipped those gorgeous boys Ollie and Gale with their acoustic guitars, flannel shirts and catchy tunes. Seeing them play at the UEA was quite the highlight of my year as a 15 year old girl. Safe to say I was relatively underwhelmed when I had a first listen to Lost Property. There was no direct hook, no single track that stood out and nothing that had me singing along whimsically in the car like the 15 year old Kel from days of old. To be honest it all sounded a bit, well, ‘samey’. However, I was willing to give it another listen, then another and another (for old times sake) and I am pleased to report that Lost Property, although not a shower is definitely a grower! Favourite tracks for me include Save You and Jump Start, both of which appear towards the end of the album, so do make sure you persist with this one as it does come good in the end!
