Pop Will Eat Itself - Anti Nasty League

Anti Nasty League is an album which is striking in its intent. Although the idea of attacking an establishment/movement is an idea seen many times by alternative artists, the band’s use of aggressive music as a vessel to their message works incredibly well. The marriage between the rhythm sections of the band and the rage of the guitars is, however, mediocre at best – and is not assisted by the effects splashed over the vocal melodies of each track. Songs such as 21st Century Civil War and Angry Man's Deathbed are perfect examples of where the meaning of their message is unfortunately lost, offering no more than garbled progressive statements as an effort to grasp and shock their audience. Unfortunately, due the mumbling vocals of the lead singer, it is impossible to know if they are actually being 'edgy' and 'progressive' for the sake of being revolutionary, or if their passion is deeply rooted alongside the people who are truly affected by these issues. In light of their anger, Anti Nasty League really struggles to unite people. It is impossible to see PWEI’s motive as a genuine one when their message is lost in the noise of their music. They have simply taken a bite out of every cultural issue up to the present date, and failed in being the leaders in change.
