Hex Friends

I got the chance to interview Hex Friends ahead of their gig at Voodoo Daddies on Tuesday for the second night of the Wild Paths Festival. Josie, Conor and Duncan make up the 3-piece band from Norwich. They spoke to me about moving on from, dare I say the C-word, Covid and how they are looking forward getting back into things. Josie also said about the possibility of a new song for tomorrow which I am sure we are all excited about.

Firstly, how excited are you to play at Wild Paths on Tuesday?

It's always a pleasure to be invited back to play Wild Paths. We have played it every year since it started and it's a great festival. It brings together the local music scene and acts from all around the country for one big party.

There are so many incredible acts playing at Wild Paths this year, is there anyone you’re desperate to see?

The line up on Thursday at Voodoos with Snayx and Panic Shack will be a fun night and it's always a joy watching local friends play in Aphra and Gladboy.

As you’re all from Norwich and that’s where the band started, how do you feel about playing in your home city?

We love playing in Norwich - there's so many great venues in this city. It's always nice getting friends and family together for the local shows.

From your debut album in 2019 “Déjà Vu”, do you feel like you grown much from then?

We released that EP pre-lockdown and like many other bands, we couldn't get together properly for nearly a year and a half to write any new material. But we're now coming out the other side and getting back into the swing of things.

Your SLUGS EP was released back in 2020, have you got any plans for new music yet?

We have a couple of new songs in the bag, one of which we will be playing at Wild Paths. Then we'll hopefully get back in the studio soon and get a new release ready.

The artwork on your albums is amazing, do you commission someone to do that?

The 'Pinky Promise' artwork was done by the fab Cal from Other Half - he goes under the name @hate_paste_ on Instagram. Then both the 'SLUGS' and 'Deja Vu' artworks are done by our friend Joel who you can find @joelpayneart_ on Instagram.

Where do you each see the band in 5 years' time?

I'd love to have the opportunity to play more small independent festivals that are similar to Wild Paths and have some new releases in the bag - maybe even a full album.

Have you got any more gigs lined up?

We're playing another show at Voodoos on Thursday 17th November with Currls and Primrose for Pica Pica, Pica Pica!.
