Polymorth

Metal

Polymorth is the solo project of Oli Mortham, a 33-year-old musician from Norfolk, UK. Inspired by the likes of progressive heavyweights Tool, Meshuggah, King Crimson, Porcupine Tree and Oceansize, he makes experimental guitar-driven music in an effort to take his listeners on a journey to somewhere unexpected and challenging. Polymorth's first release of 2022 is called 'Rainmaking', out on the 16th February. It's a heavy progressive metal track, full of complex, grooving rhythms, and laced with melodic vocalisation and spoken word throughout. It touches on the theme of climate change, in an aim to create a sense of urgency to take action from the listener. Released alongside it is the gentle, electronic companion piece 'Drip.Drip..Drip...', the first Polymorth track to not feature any guitar. It's inspired by electronic giants Massive Attack and Bonobo, and the film scores of Hans Zimmer and Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails). It expands on the themes of 'Rainmaking' by taking fragile piano/synth melodies and combining them with visceral beats, slowly building and evoking simultaneous emotions of sadness and hope.
