Les Poules à Colin - Head Out Not Home Festival Finale

IndieFolk roots

OPEN

August 29, 2019 at 20:30

Celebrating the conclusion of Head Out Not Home for 2019, the Festival Finale, will feature the fantastic Québécois folk group, Les Poules à Colin.

Taking their name from a traditional song, Les Poules à Colin are an indie roots band that channels the old medieval ballads and sugarshack dance tunes of Québec. This band of young Francophone musicians was raised on folk music, but their new sound, as heard on their brand new album MOROSE, owes as much to shimmery indie pop as it does to deep tradition. With ethereal vocals that mask biting social commentary and lyrics from old songs, and the slap and thump of French-Canadian foot percussion (think of a grinding beat that lopes like a heartbeat), they've got an entirely fresh sound. Their adaptations of traditional songs from Quebec, Brittany or Louisiana speak eloquently to their generation while retaining the beauty of timeless music. They take the stage with fiddle, guitar, lapsteel, banjo, mandolin, piano, bass and foot percussion, creating a rich and varied backdrop for their inventive arrangements. Singing primarily in French, with a few English songs, Les Poules à Colin reveal a unique and modern perspective on traditional Québec culture.

Hailed for their strong stage presence and demonstrating a contagious pleasure in each and every performance, they are charming audiences and amassing a wealth of impressive experience in a short time. Catch them in Norwich for one of only a few UK dates this summer. What better way to celebrate the end of summer!
