Hushwing is a 6 piece band devoted to the traditional music of our home county of Norfolk, an area with a very rich musical heritage. Our repertoire consists almost solely of tunes which have been collected in the county and includes a great many otherwise unheard-of gems which we hope to breathe new life into. The band includes former members of Rig-a-Jig-Jig, who were also championing this local traditional music, song and dance for over a dozen years. Hushwing is a Norfolk dialect word for a barn owl, a wonderful example of how the dialect can be so descriptive.

With fiddles, banjo, melodeon, dulcimer and piano, we hope to recreate the sort of old-time village band which would have come together to play for dances in local rural areas years ago. We play acoustically and are available purely for listening to, for hosting nights of traditional music, song and step dancing and for country dance occasions, for which the dances are fully called.
