Who will be Norfolk and Suffolk’s Next Big Thing in music? You might have heard of one of the past winners, one Mr Ed Sheeran, who’s currently busy taking over the world, or Harry Edwards, who after winning last year’s competition is now working with top producers and Actual Beck in London. Future Radio, in association with us here at Outline Magazine and Open, have tracked down the very best acts around at the moment and invite you to come along and check ‘em out at the semi finals and final of this annual competition held at Open.
Here’s the lowdown on who’s in the semi finals, whittled down from nearly 100 entries.
Semi Final I – Saturday 30th January, 7pm
Clyde Automaton Producer who also makes his own laidback, beat driven hip hop influenced tunes
Catnip and Claws Emma creates dreamlike, dynamic electronica that’ll sweep you away.
Lobster A nine piece band creating laid back and funkalicious jazz and soul
Ben Male Ben’s full on soaring voice plus his epic experimental rock makes for a fascinating listen
Savage Island Punky rock n roll meets psych melodies from this Yarmouth band
The Beelips A pensive electro twosome with some great vocals and synth action
Young States An all-woman alt-rock band that take no prisoners
Semi Final II – Sunday 31st January, 7pm
Dazy Crown 90’s dreamy lo fi indie sets Dazy Crown apart from the crowd.
Maya Law This teenage singer songwriter creates moving and minimalist music
Happy Coloured Marbles Scuzzy garage rockers
Midnight Zoo This young band make post punk rock with a nod to Joy Division
Luke Peter Foster A spoken word artist with swathes of beats laid underneath
Aplah Evocative, melancholic and powerful electronica from this Norwich artist
Real Life Charm Quirky, wonky, jazzy and catchy songs from an art collective
Tickets for the semi finals are £4 in advance, available from Open. The final will be held on Saturday 5th March. The winner gets an array of prizes including £500 cash dollar. You can check out all the soundz at future.co.uk.
