Pocket Comedy

After being blown away by “Pocket Dream” in September of last year I was filled with much excitement at the prospect of seeing another riotous representation of one of my favourite Shakespeare plays.

The setting was that of Spanish bohemia, with the actors wearing multi-coloured sombreros and mismatched sports tops and from the word go the live music began, the madness ensued and the audience were left giggling away at the slapstick genius that unfolded before them.

The cast of six male actors chopped and changed between characters, male and female throughout; these transitions were seamless and highly entertaining. The mistress of the Ephesus was the showstopper; let’s face it, everybody loves a man strutting across the stage wearing a backless black sequin mini dress, “come f**k me” purple PVC boots offset by a pair of white fluffy bunny ears!

Drag queens aside, all of the performances were exceptional but I was particularly impressed by the part of Dromio of Syarcuse. For me, he carried off his frantic, reeling speeches with the perfect combination of eloquence and humour whilst staying true to the original script. The fact that he did all of this whilst running, jumping and being punched in the face made it even more of a joy to see.

I literally cannot wait for the next show! If you haven’t witnessed a Propeller Pocket performance, you are quite simply missing out.
