The Permanent Smilers

This album is a sum of its inspirations. From jangly 90's pop to 60's  shimmers, it's a winner on all fronts. Lead singer and main man Richard's voice is somewhere between Paul Weller and Ian Dury and the guitars are straight early Blur; keyboards are somewhere between Pulp and The Doors. It's all good good stuff, and this album even has a song about a washing machine. With most songs upbeat and positive, this is a great collection of tunes for the summer. Elastic is a lovely stompy little indie number, while Ghosts is a more pensive trumpet-led track. You Know When To Go is a one minute full on guitar burst, full of energy. The lyrics throughout are heartfelt and full of meaning; I especially enjoyed Sleepyhead which was incredibly tender. A good album that I imagine would be great live.
