WHO?

Whilst many other Norwich bands have come from nowhere and are seen as new young bands, Marigolds seem to have arrived mature and fully formed. A sound that’s complete,  with songs that sound fresh yet familiar.

But there is a reason they sound so good. “Myself and Tom were in a band before,” said Joe. “In fact, Tom’s a serial band person – seven and counting so far! Owen and Davey had been in a band before too – and we were all friends anyway.” So that means that when they formed Marigolds in December, they knew what to do, how to handle it all. And Number One on that list was to take their time to get it right.

It’s all paying off handsomely now for the band. Everywhere you look Marigolds are on the gig list and the latest recordings sound those of a band that know how to handle a studio too.

WHAT?

Marigolds describe their sound as summery, angsty pop. “We didn’t know what our sound would be when we formed,” said Davey, “but once we started playing the sound just came. It was a blend of all our influences from pop to punk to maths rock and Indie.” The band says they also wanted to work on their performance before they took it onto a stage. They wanted to put on a show. “We want to get better, though,” said Davey, “to be really tight – that is what drives us on. To be perfect.”

LIVE?

The band supported Spring King at The Watefront a few weeks back and have since done a short tour of Norwich, Bristol and Brighton with Pet Library. Learning from other bands and getting out of Norwich has helped a lot. The band has played many of the Norwich venues and a summer set in Chapelfield Gardens for BBC Introducing in Norfolk so it’s not surprising they say they are beginning to notice “a few familiar faces at gigs, which is nice. People have started dancing and singing along too!”

THE FUTURE?

“At the moment, we’re focussing on The Cut,” said Joe.  “There’s a new single coming soon, plus a music video and we are currently writing more songs for an EP release early next year.” And having done one tour, they would like to do more. “Going to Brighton with another band has opened that up as a possibility. It doesn’t scare us now.”
