A complete contrast to any of their previous albums.

Lower Than Atlantis - Lower Than Atlantis

Lower Than Atlantis are known in the rock industry for their post hardcore and punk rock music which seems a mile off when first listening to this album.

I've always liked Lower Than Atlantis for being a rock band, but with this album I feel they have gone for a more mainstream approach with their catchy, clichéd lyrics and overall more upbeat songs. This being said, it shouldn't be considered such a terrible thing as the album sound fresh, new and is a complete contrast to any of their previous albums.

The album opens with 'Here We Go' which sounds familiar to the usual tracks produced by Lower Than Atlantis; the song contains so much energy and excitement with its belting lyrics and overall rock tempo that simply you just have to sing along to it. It's no wonder the song made it onto Radio 1's A list.

'Ain't No Friend' is the second song from the album and is the first song you hear which hasn't been pre-released. The song opens with an electronic beat and an overall quirkiness which is new and different to any other song they've released. 'Ain't No Friend' is extremely pop-infused, full of rhythm and unexpected electric sounds that will get you off your feet. It's definitely a step away from their usual rock and roll tunes, but I do like that they've experimented and tried something new and have achieved a song which overall really isn't that bad.

'Criminal' is without a doubt my favourite song from this album, as it seem to have the most passion and meaning put into it. With previous albums, Lower Than Atlantis have seemed to struggle to put an emphasis on what they really are about, and I think this song, with its' energy and strong beat, defines who they are as a band. This song really does show how much they've grown from their previous albums and how they've explored different techniques to get the perfect tone and beat to achieve such an epic tune.

Lead Singer, Mike Duce announced that this album 'is pretty different' and he was definitely right about that. Lower Than Atlantis have produced a great album once again which has allowed fans to see them in a completely different way without completely losing their rock and roll credibility. The album is full of explorations and different tunes which you won't get bored of quickly.
